Unphotographable

This is a picture I did not take
Of a koala-nosed cutie
Wearing emergency-room white
And glitterglass on her cheeks.
She breathes across
Lightly parted
Lightly bruised lips.
A curtain separates her
From the electric thump
Of defibrillator pads
Pressed to the chest
Of her broken brother's body.

Her heart beats too fast.
His, not at all.
