Light

Tear gas skips gravestones
Because there are not yet enough tears here.
Not yet enough to tear your towers down.
But I have hope:
The clouds over Behesht-e Zahra
Are dark with tears.
Wait. Wait.
Payaane shabe siah sepidast
But is it sunlight or muzzle flash?

Take my mourning banners.
I don't need them.
I will wash my eyes in the rain
And add my tears to the torrent
And we will cry and cry and cry
Enough tears to tear your towers down.
Payaane shabe siah sepidast
It is heaven, it is God,
It is sunlight on my green garden.

Take my mourning banners.
Take my sighs.
Take my life.
I only Neda voice to say
Payaane shabe siah sepidast.

==========
Inspiration: Iranian police use force against graveside rally. The phrase "Payaane shabe siah sepidast" is, roughly, a Farsi translation of the English idiom "there is light at the end of the tunnel." Behesht-e Zahra is the cemetery where the rally was head. Source:
