This is the first of several pieces of guest content to be featured on this site over the next few weeks while I work on some other projects. This piece comes from writer V. J. Chambers. -- Gabriel
You play me one of your accidental tunes.
I tune you in and out like
The car radio,
Drowning you out with advertisements
For panic.
Whatever my brain can pick up
That might go wrong this week.
Static. Interference. Distractions.
So I don't have to square off
With the fact I've been
Afraid to let you in.
You leave the windows open.
Night air breathes on my skin.
I crawl into bed alone
And I cuddle up with my accusations.
I pull the blankets over my head.
I candy coat my terror with anger,
But
It's funny, because
While I'm so busy locking down
All the ways into my soul,
I realize you're like the breeze.
You blow in through all the cracks and chinks.
And sealing all the entrances seals the exits
Too.
So I open all the channels.
I spread apart the way.
I lay back.
I just let you in.
