In Praise of Shadows

The actor's lips
constantly moist
marked against the
darker child's cheek
so conspicuous
complement
the immediate beauty
taken from her
rich young skin.
Pressed in like a fog
the actor's lips
this otherworldly whiteness
a flush of red
the price of being turned over
never penetrated
but thrust into
the dull sleepy luster
far more sensual
best left obscure
if indecent
under scrutiny.
