Birthright

What gifts did you impart
Through the umbilical commute?
The curve of pale shoulders
Pressed on fog-white glass?
Dreams of a starling crying for
The red-side knight’s fatal mistake?
You are little more than
A genetic John Hancock
On a placental bill-of-sale:
Buy one, get one free—
A history of heart failure
And a certain nasal geometry.
