Avis Allegretto

The sparrow grasps the fence
Head down against the wind;
In the gusts, he sways–
An avian metronome–
To some natural rhythm
Not unlike the tock-knock-tock
Of a woodpecker percussionist
Crooning to a grandfather clock.
