Avis Allegretto

The sparrow grasps the fence
Head down against the wind;
In the gusts, he sways–
An avian metronome–
To some natural rhythm
Not unlike the tock-knock-tock
Of a woodpecker percussionist
Crooning to a grandfather clock.

Somehow, I'm reminded of band. Or Audobon's books.

An interesting idea, though I'm not sure I would compare the rapid tapping of a woodpecker to a metronome or clock. Using a woodpecker seems to be at odds with the steadiness the rest of the poem draws to mind.
